The Wedding Detail Shots Checklist: What to Have Ready for Your Photographer
When your photographer arrives, the first thing they usually reach for is not you. It is your details. The rings, the shoes, the perfume, the invitations, the jewellery. These flat-lay images open your gallery and set its entire mood, and they happen in the first quiet half hour of the morning while you are in the chair.
Here is the part most brides do not realise. The quality of those photos depends almost entirely on you, and on whether everything is gathered, clean and ready in one place. A photographer styling a flat lay from items scattered across three rooms is a photographer not making art. So gather it the night before. It is the single easiest way to lift the look of your whole gallery.
What to gather the night before.
Put all of this into one box or on one tray, ready to hand over the moment your photographer arrives:
- Both wedding rings, and the engagement ring
- The invitation suite, including any save-the-date or menu cards you love
- Perfume, in its bottle (it is a hero of almost every flat lay)
- Your shoes, wiped clean, with any stickers or tags removed from the soles
- All jewellery: earrings, bracelet, any heirloom or borrowed pieces
- Hair accessories, comb, veil or headpiece
- A spare loose flower or two, and a length of your ribbon, if you have them
- Any sentimental items: a handwritten vow book, a locket, a family heirloom, the something blue
If a piece carries a story, a grandmother's ring, your mother's veil, set it slightly apart and tell your photographer. Those are the images that become the ones you frame.
Small things that make a big difference.
A few details lift these photos from nice to editorial. Remove price tags and shoe-sole stickers in advance. Keep the perfume bottle smudge-free. If you have the box your rings or shoes came in, bring it, as good packaging styles beautifully. And keep all of it out of direct heat and away from windows the night before, especially anything that can warp or mark.
One more, because it matters for the morning's flow: nominate one person to be in charge of the details box. When the photographer asks for it, there is no scramble. It simply appears.
Why this protects your glam time.
The hidden benefit of gathering everything the night before is calm. When the details are ready, your photographer works quietly in the background while you are being pampered, and nobody is sent hunting for a missing earring while your liner is being set. The morning stays serene, which is exactly the point.
